Colorado solar readiness checklist
A short checklist to work through before requesting a solar assessment: bill, utility, roof, HOA, and household plans.
1. Pull your bill
Have a recent electric bill in front of you. Note utility name, rate schedule, and 12-month kWh usage.
2. Confirm your utility
Utility is on your bill, not your mailing address. Xcel, CORE, Black Hills, and municipal utilities all differ.
3. Look at your roof honestly
Age, material, orientation, and shading. If a re-roof is close, plan around it.
4. HOA
Colorado law protects solar installation, but architectural review still applies. Check your covenants.
5. Household plans
EV, heat pump, addition, pool? Size the system for where your usage is going, not just where it is.
