Colorado hail is a real long-term factor. What to ask about module hail ratings, workmanship warranties, and homeowner insurance before installation.

Module hail rating

Modules are tested to IEC hail standards, but ratings vary. Ask which module is proposed and its rating.

Warranty stack

Module product warranty, module performance warranty, inverter warranty, and installer workmanship warranty are separate. Ask for the length of each in writing.

Insurance

Call your homeowner insurance carrier before signing. Solar is typically covered under the dwelling policy but may adjust the premium.

After a storm

Document any hail event. Panel damage is possible but not automatic; a licensed inspector should look before assumptions.
