Xcel says my system is capped at a certain size. Why?
Colorado net-metering rules limit residential system size relative to your recent electric usage. This is to prevent oversized systems that export more than they consume. Xcel applies the rule using your account's prior 12 months of usage.
If you plan to add load — an EV, a heat pump, an addition, a pool — Xcel may allow a larger size if you can document the expected load increase. Ask your installer to include that documentation in the interconnection application. Do not accept "we always cap at X kW" as an answer without seeing the actual Xcel tariff language and your account's specific number.
