Probably yes, or at least plan the two together. An asphalt-shingle roof in Colorado typically has 20–25 years of usable life; at 12 years, you have roughly a decade left. Solar arrays last 25+ years, so installing on a roof that will need replacement mid-life means paying to remove and reinstall the array later. That cost is real and usually not in the original solar proposal. A sensible order: get an honest roof inspection first. If replacement is within 5 years, coordinate the roof and solar together. If the roof has 15+ years of clear remaining life, proceed with solar. Any installer worth working with will discuss this openly rather than dismissing it.
